Diligent contractors have
“no fear” about Title 24
Building News - North Coast Builders Exchange - June 14,2010
Article by Myles North, June, 2010.
“Title 24” is the last thing many
Bay Area contractors want to hear
from the lips of their clients or building
officials. For many, it is one more
thorn at their sides in already tough
economic times. But this protest is
largely due to the fact that their businesses
are now being forced to a certain
standard of quality. Every Green
builder will tell you: “Green building”
really means “quality workmanship,”
and companies that have maintained a
standard of quality (and legal) work
are not surprised or alarmed at Title
24 or any other quality-of-work regulation,
because they already operate at
that standard.
One such area contractor, Wedge
Roofing, Inc. is one of the few Bay
Area general contractors who confidently
assert: “We know and follow
Title 24 regulations.” As a contractor
with a 35-year reputation in the Bay
Area, Wedge Roofing, Inc. is proud to
assert that they are expert in Title 24
and green-building practices; they can
assert this because they have been
doing things the right and legal way
since day one.
As a general contractor and a
sprayed polyurethane foam interior
insulation contractor (through
Wedge’s sister company Airtight
Insulation Group), they have to know
the language of these regulations
inside-out. Because of this, Wedge
has trained their entire staff to earn
company-wide LEED® and Build It
GREEN® certifications, and even
have a certified Build It GREEN®
‘Greenpoint Rater,’ ‘Greenpoint
Advisor’ and an EPA-HUD Lead
Renovator Professional on staff, 24/7.
These experts are on-hand at all
times for the complex inquiries of
Wedge’s clientele and contractor colleagues.
Gary Harvey, GM at Wedge
explained, “We know people get confused
and jittery about any enforced
change of workmanship, so we made
sure to attain every certification we
could to train our company, and even
have three certified professionals in
various areas of green-building code
on staff for our clients and prime contractor’s
needs.”
After talking with Gary, I found
that Airtight Insulation Group doesn’t
just know and follow the rules; they
have the equipment and applicators to
take full advantage of the high-tech
features of the Green Building revolution.
Airtight Insulation Group sprays
1/2 lb., 2 lb., 3 lb. SPF foam, along
with soy-based and bio-based options,
for the greenest of their clients and
contractors.
Contractors and architects would
do well to make use of the expertise
of quality companies, to whom these
new regulations are no surprise or
scramble.
